Palm Sunday: A Day of Triumph and Reflection for Heroines of Jericho and Royal Arch Masons

Updated: Apr 12, 2023

Palm Sunday is an important event in the Christian calendar that marks the beginning of Holy Week, culminating in Easter Sunday. It commemorates the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, where he was welcomed by crowds waving palm branches and proclaiming him as the Messiah. The significance of this event is rooted in the Old Testament prophecy of Zechariah, which foretold that the king of Israel would come to Jerusalem riding on a donkey, surrounded by the adoration of his people.

However, the symbolism of Palm Sunday extends beyond the historical account of Jesus' entry into Jerusalem. It also serves as a reminder of the spiritual journey that Christians must undertake to follow in the footsteps of Jesus. By waving palms and shouting "Hosanna," the crowds expressed their devotion and recognition of Jesus as their savior. In the same way, Christians today must demonstrate their faith and commitment to Jesus through their words and actions by living a life of love, compassion, and service to others.

Interestingly, the Palm Sunday celebration also connects to the Heroines of Jericho and Royal Arch Masons, two organizations that trace their roots to ancient biblical times. The Heroines of Jericho is a women's organization promoting spiritual growth, social justice, and community service. The group takes its name from the story of Joshua and the walls of Jericho, which is recounted in the Book of Joshua in the Old Testament. According to the story, the walls of Jericho were impenetrable. Still, Joshua led his army to victory by circling the city seven times, blowing trumpets, and shouting until the walls came tumbling down.

The Royal Arch Masons, on the other hand, is a men's organization dedicated to preserving ancient Masonic traditions and values. It is traced to the 18th century when Masonic lodges in England began incorporating different rituals and ceremonies based on biblical stories and themes.

The connections between Palm Sunday, the Heroines of Jericho, and the Royal Arch Masons may seem tenuous at first glance. Still, they all share a common thread of spiritual devotion and commitment to a higher purpose. Each organization seeks to inspire its members to live lives of service and sacrifice and strive to better understand the divine mysteries beyond our mortal existence. Whether through the waving of palms, the blowing of trumpets, or the uncovering of hidden treasures, the message of Palm Sunday is one of hope, redemption, and the eternal promise of salvation.
